Medicare Supplemental Coverage
With presidential elections coming up in about a year I am very concerned about the future of Medicare and how it will affect the many millions of seniors in our country. I am not very far away of being able to apply for Medicare benefits and I am hoping that the changes that are coming to Medicare will not affect my ability to get the coverage that I need. I know that once I am enrolled in both traditional Medicare plans I have the option of signing up for Medicare supplements. As it stands right now this coverage will help with out-of-pocket expenses that seniors face after traditional Medicare has covered their portion. There are several plans that are available when it comes to Medicare supplemental insurance. Each plan has specific coverage that is designed to help the senior in their retirement years and Medicare gap insurance is very easy to get.
Let’s say for example, you are looking for Colorado Medicare supplement coverage and you are not sure where to begin. If you have had your regular health insurance through United healthcare prior to retirement then you are eligible to get United healthcare Medicare supplement plans from the same carrier making the process painless and effortless. As was stated above, there are several plans available as far as supplements are concerned. Each of these plans is standardized by the government, meaning that Plan A from one insurance company will be the exact same coverage from another. You need to be sure to compare Medigap rates because carriers will offer different premiums for each of these plans regardless of the coverage. You also need to be aware that since the plants are standardized carriers cannot add to the policy or take away from it.
In addition to the supplement plans you are also eligible to enroll in Medicare advantage plans. Advantage plans are simply traditional Medicare plans that are offered through private insurance carrier instead of the government. The enrollment period is different for advantage plans than supplement plans. With the supplement plan you can make application within six months of turning 65 and with a Medicare advantage plan you have to wait until the open enrollment period which is towards the end of each calendar year. For example, this year opened in Rome and began on October 15 and will run through December 7. 1-800-MEDIGAP is a great source for you to get your questions answered and get the coverage you need.
